Nixon

Even though Nixon did some positive aspects towards the United States, he mostly hurt the United States. Most people remember him as a bad than good. He hired "plumbers" to find out people's information. Citizens could not trust him at all. He was un-trustworthy. Nixon seemed to be mysterious and he looked like he was always keeping a secret from everyone. Nixon kept a list of people who he didn't like and he didn't discuss every problem with the people in office, only people that he was close with. And that was only two or three people. Everyone wanted to know when he was going to leave office. After he set up the plumbers and the FBI suspected him in something, he dropped out being the president. He tried to bribe the FBI to stop the investigation about him. All though he did help us through the Vietnam War, he also was not trusted by many Americans.

Women's Rights

1.)  What do you think about the ERA?  Why?

In my opinion, there is good and bad ideas about the ERA. Some cases it was good because it showed how women wanted to become equal to men, but there are consequences. I don't think the ERA wasd a good idea. Women could have been drafted and many women wouldn't want that to happen to them. Some like how they can just be housewives and take care of their family. Yes, it's a good idea for them to have equal pay and better life-style, but that leads to many consequences. I feel like it would cause more violence in society.

2.) Should it be brought back?
I think it should be brought back. Today, society has changed since the 1960's, so the consequences wouldn't be as bad as what they were before. Now, women are enlisted in the military and there's laws about being drafted at a certain age. Now, women and men get equal pay and are equal on the job site. But some are still lacking rights.  I feel like if it was brought back today than it could have a better chance of passing it.

Jackie Robinson

Yes, I agree that Jackie Robinson deserves to be ranked as one of the greatest civil rights figures. He was the first African American in the Major Leagues. He stood up for what he believed in and at the end, everyone loved him. When people tried to get in his way, he wouldn't let them. Robinson showed that anyone can do anything if they tried hard enough. People realized he was a great baseball player and didn't care what color he's skin was. He allowed people to see that African Americans are not different from whites. Jackie Robinson stood up for African Americans and deserves to be ranked one of the most important people in the Civil Rights Movement.

Dr. Suess's The Butter Battle Book

The Yooks and the Zooks were arguing till the end of dawn at the wall. Wondering which one would drop the ball. With all of this commotion and confusion, a big bang was heard. The Yooks and the Zooks' eyes were all blurred. Trying to see where all this smoke came from, a commander could be seen in the distance. Trying to provide some assistance. He said to stop all this confusion and delusion. This battle is silly, we should have peace in this lily. The Yooks and Zooks realized it doesn't matter if you eat your bread with the butter side up or down, this town  is better than all, hands down.

Do you think bombing civilians is a fair/justifiable act of war??

I do not think that bombing civilians and cities is a justifiable act of war. The civilians cannot defend themself when the other countries are bombing at them. While their opponent has weapons, these people can't fight back because they have no weapons that could hurt them. They should give the big cities enough time to evacuate everyone that is living there. Why should the civilians suffer for the other countries? Even if the othe countires bomb the cities, the civilians are still getting hurt, but indirectly. They would still suffer from whats going on in the city. But if the countries are boombing civilians, more and more of them are getting killed and they can't even defend themself. Bombing civilians is unfair and is not a justifiable act of war.

Simpsons Prohibition

I think the producers of the Simpson's episode did a superior job showing the elements of the Prohibition in 1920. The accuracies outweighed the inaccurate or the comedic value of the episode. It showed how their was speakeasies in the 1920's and how they had to pay more money for beer since it was hard to get it. It showed how they had to bootleg the beer in Springfield and cost more for each cup, just like in the 1920's they had to increase the value of beer. I enloyed watching the Simpsons in class because it shows how different shows use historic times for their show. Its a different way of learning what happened in the past and how we see it today.

The scene in the Simpson's espisode that I would rewrite would be in the beginning where Bart was drunk. During the St. Patrick's Day parade, Bart accidentally got drunk which lead to prohibition. To make it more historically accurate, they should have put more people drinking such as women. Not only men were drinking during the 1920's, some of the women were drinking too. In my opinion, I think they should have more violent and destruction to the town. So people could see why they enforced the prohibition.
